Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates
September 22, 2020

Six months have passed since the Orange County Employees Retirement System (OCERS) office has been closed to our members, employers and other stakeholders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. OCERS’ staff did not miss a beat, and was able to immediately begin to fully serve our members from the very first day by telephone and OCERS’ website. Our team had even practiced for a possible pandemic two years earlier as part of our risk disaster recovery plan and those efforts assisted us with our ability to serve all members during this uncertain time.

While serving our members in person has always been a special occasion for OCERS’ staff, we have taken pride in being able to continue to serve each and every one of you in these changed circumstances with the same standard of excellence that is a trademark of this system. Your health and well-being are of utmost importance to us. We will continue to work remotely on your behalf, with our office closed for your protection, until such time as the health authorities direct that it is safe to return.

We recognize the global pandemic resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) may be creating uncertainty and concern among our members. We want to reassure you that your benefits are safe, and we have staff working off-site to continue to serve you.

Our OCERS Office is Closed

Our office is currently closed to the public, but we have staff working off-site to serve you. You can call us at (714) 558-6200, or send us a message via our contact us page on our website. We will respond as soon as possible, but our response may be delayed as we’re experiencing a high volume of requests.

Investment Update in Response to COVID-19

We want to reassure you that despite these turbulent times and markets, OCERS has mechanisms and strategies to protect your income, now and in the future. Since the initial spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we have seen global economic stress and related volatility in markets. OCERS has an investment strategy that focuses on income and we’ve built an investment portfolio designed to generate positive returns over decades – rather than days, weeks, or months. More information about our investment activity during the coronavirus crisis can be found on the Investments page.

Thank You For Your Patience

We appreciate your patience and understanding. We thank each of our members for serving the Orange County community in these difficult times. We’ll continue to be at your service for many years to come.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
March 30, 2020

Novel Coronavirus

In the spirit of the COVID-19 medical directives of the CDC and the Orange County Health Care Agency, and out of concern for the health of our 45,000 OCERS members as well as our nearly 100 staff who serve them, we have decided to temporarily suspend in-person meetings with visitors to the OCERS Headquarters building in Santa Ana. Beginning Tuesday morning, March 17, OCERS was closed to walk-in members and the public on a temporary basis. Retirement applications can be completed and filed via the myOCERS member portal or mailed to the OCERS office.

A Message from OCERS Chief Executive Officer Steve Delaney on the OCERS Response to COVID-19
March 19, 2020 Update

One of the more frustrating aspects of this COVID-19 crisis is the uncertainty that comes with dealing with something so new and so dangerous. I’m writing to reassure all OCERS members about certain facts of which you can be confident.

Your Benefit is Secure

The most important fact that you need to know is if you are retired, you will get your benefit, paid in full, paid on time. That’s a fact.
